Stories of Newark

Brand Identity, Communications Design, Exhibition Design

In collaboration with Photoville, the Newark Public Library, and the National Endowment for the Humanities, Stories of Newark is an Oral History Collection initiative that focuses on current and past struggles for racial equality in the Newark region for communities of color. The project aimed to celebrate the voices, experiences, and contributions of everyday working-class Newarkers active in arts and racial justice work.

My role started as a historical assistant but then became the Graphic Designer on the project. I had the opportunity to define the project’s brand identity, communications material, and final exhibition. I later co-authored an article about my design process and the significance of design justice in institutional community engagement work.

Listen to some of the stories (including mine) in this podcast.
