Colonial Resistance Poster Series
Illustration, Design, Research
What could Indigenous and Black people in the colonial Americas create, given the resources and artistic mediums available to us today? This project is a poster series representing Indigenous and African Rebellions against colonial oppression utilizing design styles from 1970’s social movements and historical printing techniques. Imagining a continued legacy of art in service of the people.
I researched historical printing methods and protest art, inspired heavily by Emory Douglass and the Black Panther Party Newspaper. I applied this research to design and illustrate this series of four posters. One of the Posters were able to be a part of Homage, a group art exhibition curated by Toni Smalls with On The Fringe NYC.
