Summary
Variable was developed during the Porto Editorial Design Summer School, a two-week international workshop in Porto, Portugal, directed by Andrew Howard and Anna Resende in July 2024. The program brought together designers from different backgrounds and levels of experience to explore editorial design through collaborative and experimental approaches.
As a team, we developed a book project centered on a variable typeface, using typographic variation to explore movement, rhythm, and transformation. We paired the typeface with my own film photography, creating an interplay between photographic images and shifting typographic forms. Variable became an opportunity to test how a publication can hold multiple visual states while remaining a cohesive object.
